Chicks on the Right: The Citadel is Gaining Ground

Their site is one of my daily haunts. I would give anything to meet these two women. Seems like they get it. Whoo-hoo! You can find them HERE, but I printed the WHOLE thing. Go check them out and let them know how awesome Patriots are.

A Conservative Utopia? Discuss.

Written by

Years ago, I may have thought this was a strange concept - I mean, I grew up in suburbia and in my 20s and early 30s, lived in several downtown areas across this great country of ours, enjoying city life. But now? Several years ago, I fell in love with a man who is sort of opposed to suburbs, if you will. He isn't a fan of neighborhood covenants and homeowner's associations and, well, regulations and whatnot. He likes open space. No, he NEEDS open space. And in choosing to become his wife, I knew that I'd more than likely never live in a suburb or downtown area ever again. I always told him that as long as I wasn't more than 10 miles from a Super Target, this city girl would happily become a country girl. I'm adaptable like that.

And so it goes.

Now that I've lived both kinds of lives, I would never go back to the city by choice. And I truly understand why my husband loves it, too. Country living is all about freedom. And oh, how I love me some freedom, y'all.

Between being a city-turned-country girl, as well as a political activist for the past four years, I can totally understand the desire to create a conservative "utopia" like the one the folks at "The Citadel" are trying to create. They're a group of people in Idaho who have the intent on purchasing 2,000 to 3,000 acres to form a community that will be composed of "patriotic Americans who 'voluntarily choose to live together in accordance with Thomas Jefferson's ideal of Rightful Liberty.'"

What exactly is "Rightful Liberty?" According to them on their website (cited above), that means that "neighbors keep their noses out of other neighbors' business, that neighbors live and let live."
I can relate to that.

And here's the basic information on their initiative (directly from their website):

DESCRIPTION: The Citadel Community will house between 3,500 and 7,000 patriotic American families who agree that being prepared for the emergencies of life and being proficient with the American icon of Liberty — the Rifle — are prudent measures. There will be no HOA. There will be no recycling police and no local ordinance enforcers from City Hall.
LOCATION: We are in the process of selecting the ideal location among the beautiful mountains of Idaho in the American Redoubt.
PROJECT LAUNCH: We plan to purchase land for the Citadel in 2013 and break ground soon after. Even before unveiling our national advertising campaign, more than 200 families reserved space within our community!
WHY APPLY FOR RESIDENCE: If living in an affordable, safe, well-prepared, patriotic community where your children will be educated in school rather than indoctrinated, consider the Citadel. Approved applicants receive a Lifetime Lease (paid off in only 30 years). No credit check. No background check. Zero down payment. Zero interest. Zero property taxes.
HOW TO APPLY: Simply read through the information here on our website. If you believe the Citadel is ideal for you and your family, complete our application. More of your questions may be answered at our FAQ page.
HOUSING DETAILS: All homes will be built of poured concrete for exceptional strength and durability. Your home will be built to your specs (details available at this website) with utilities stubbed to the interior. You select the facade for the exterior of your home. You are responsible for completing the interior of your home as you wish. You may choose to do the work yourself, or hire contractors. But every single detail, from paint to tiles to counters, is your choice.
200 families have already filled out applications, and the land isn't even bought yet.
Huh.
Like I said above, I can see the attraction in a place like this - especially for conservative-minded folks who are sick and tired of being regulated and ruled to death. And as a country-convert myself, I GET the notion of being resistant to such regulation, while simultaneously being attracted to the notion of homesteading. Those incliniations are entirely conservative, IMHO.
But I'm curious, clever and competent readers. What do you think?
Discuss.

And that's the beauty of Liberty, Farm Dad. If it's for you, great. If not, that's good too. You wish each other well and move on. Too many people will try to stop it because they A) don't understand and thus fear it, or B) they're too unhappy with their own lives to wish someone else God speed.

Not sure if its gonna end up as a "Waco" or more of a "Jonestown" but either way, it'll be a helluva show.

and put together by a felon. How come that's not in the FAQ?

Razor in the Benewah

hiswiserangel said...

Well Razor, Sam isn't hiding his past. He's very open about it and quite frankly, it doesn't bother me.
There are guilty men with worse reputations running things in DC right now who worry me a whole lot more than Mr. Kerodin.

are you buying a spot then?

Razor in the Benewah

hiswiserangel said...

I would if I could get my elderly parents to move.

Anonymous said...

So that's no. Also if every house in the citadel MUST have an AR. Where will Mr. K be living?

Razor in the Benewah

hiswiserangel said...

Razor, if you don't want to live there, fine. Don't. Entirely your right. But if all you want to do is piss on other people's parade, do it somewhere else.
You are not the government, it is not your job to "protect" people from what YOU believe to be a bad decision.
That's the beauty of Liberty. You get to make your own decisions, good, bad or neutral.

was hoping you would be able to see a scam when you see one. Theres snow there 4 months out of the year. No water, no sewer systems, no roads, no power, no high speed internet. I could put you on my snow machine and take you to their 20 acres. Interested? If not you anyone else interested.? :)

Dude, seriously, I'm 4th generation Texan. When my family got here there was NOTHING but rattlesnakes, mesquite shrub, coyotes and some pissed off Indians. Guess what? They and some other folk managed to make Texas into a pretty nice place to live. It's called Pioneer Spirit. If Americans with a dream and modern equipment can't do what our forefathers did with oxen and plows, then we don't deserve to make it.

Anonymous said...

Well thanks for taking the time to chat all the same. Thats the most ANY of the 3 people have talked about the citadel. If your ever in the Benewah, the offer for the ride is still open :)

Razor in the Benewah

hiswiserangel said...

Actually sounds like fun, Razor! Thanks for the offer. ;-)

Razor, honestly, it's nowhere near as pretty as the blue plaid one I'm wearing on the right hand side.

SierraCheryl III said...

So Razor you judge the movement by Kerodin's past? Ever think about the people that are involved in it? He has hidden nothing from us whatsoever. Funny, I thought once you paid your debt to society, then you could move on in life. If you live in an area where cold weather prevails, then you should know there are ways to overcome the short growing season, wells can be dug, power can be brought in and composting toilets can handle the sewage issue. Pioneers are resourceful, can overcome and adapt as needed. It used to be the American way. I am hopeful the citizens of the Citadel will prove to have the tenacity of the Americans of old.

Craig M. said...

Nice concept, but that many in a small area? 1 or 2 drone strikes...just sayin'. God bless them for their ideals. I myself would rather be in Texas or Wyoming right now, but family issues keep me here.

crankyjohn said...

Personally, I believe if this is what they want to do then no one has the right to tell them they can't. But, has movements like this ever turned out good in the modern age? Jim Jones, Waco, Warren Jeffs. Don't get me wrong, I love the IDEA of living among liked minded patriotic people, but human nature being what it is, despotism always seems to find its way to the front in human beings, no matter what the political belief system is.

hiswiserangel said...

Well, one glaring difference I see between the Citadel and the Jones/Jeffs/etc. is that EVERYONE will have guns, not just those in charge.

You can't mix Jones/Jeffs (terror within by those in charge) with Waco/Ruby Ridge (terror from outside). All bad situations, but the destruction came from .gov in the latter.

Anonymous said...

Cheryl Why do you think "composting toilets" out houses arent used anymore??? IT FREEZES HERE. Like -20 sometimes... We have had 5 days now where it hasn't gotten above 18. And im sure putting a well in with what...? 50 "composting toilets" near by should be no health problem. Call the Panhandle Health Dept. 208)245-4556. And you want to build concrete houses? Do you know what happens to concrete when its freezing outside & warm inside? Condensation! Why do you think Cheryl, that NO ONE lives where you want to build. Maybe that should be your first clue. But I understand how you east coast brain wizards know more than us more ol' logging folks. Good luck honey :)

Razor in the Benewah

crankyjohn said...

Good point Wiser, I don't deny their right to do this, I hope it works. I just personally believe it is futile. In the world we live in no one can be an island. They are just making it easy for big brother to step on them all in one spot. Personally I believe in taking the battle to where the dragon lives.

hiswiserangel said...

Alright, Razor, please note my comment requirements (Play nice. None of you are too old for a spanking).
I have no problem with dissenting opinions, just be respectful. And I can vouch for Cheryl, she's not from the east coast.
No one has said the Citadel is going up as soon as the ground thaws in the Spring. There are still a lot of i's to dot and t's to cross before we get there. There are studies to be done, plans to be drawn up, papers to be filed. Everyone with their panties in a twist seems to think the Citadel folk haven't a brain between them and will just show up with a moving van full of furniture.
No one expects this thing to spring fully formed from the frozen tundra of Idaho. They know it will come in stages, there are several building/construction/development professionals in the group I think they have a handle on the development procedures.
I like you Razor, don't make me spank your ass.

Anonymous said...

wait a minute, first you show cleavage, now you are thinking about swatting my ass. Something you wish to tell the group? Please share. :)

Razor in the Benewah

Point im trying to make here is. Your leader is a convicted felon right? Extortion right? Is taking deposits for something that has only an artist drawing. No permits. No environmental impact reports. No blue prints. No treatment plant plans. Water treatment plant plans. BUT he does have a Pay Pal Plan. Are you starting to see a pattern here?

Razor in the Benewah

hiswiserangel said...

If you had ALL the info about Kerodin, we could talk. Have you read all the facts regarding the case? What went down? Or just getting your background from 3rd parties who have long-standing vendettas. I send thousands of dollars every year to a bunch of idiots in DC who should be behind bars.

If it was just Kerodin and a paypal account, that would be one thing. But I do know several respected businessmen and women, who are involved. If they are ALL crooked, then there's a problem.

And the majority of people who come here and comment know me and my, um, quirks. In other words, the group already knows. :-)

But for a true spanking, you need MissK. I'm more of a spankee than a spanker.

Anonymous said...

im sorry. Your last sentence made me go outside and stand in the cold. Please stop that MissK lol :)

Anonymous said...

no no no. I thought YOU were speaking as a "MissK". I didnt realize until after who Miss K was. I brain farted on the "spankee vs. spanker" my bad :) BTW the cold weather does make the ladies all, how should I put this? Perky? Yeh all perky. :)

CJ, your paranoia is part of your considerable charm.

Razor, uh-huh. ~arms crossed, tapping toe~ I so enjoy watching someone hit the verbal reverse button.

crankyjohn: No one in there right mind should plunk down any money for ANY kind of a development that has NO plans. NO office. NO phone. NO permits. Lets see someone walk into a bank for financing with a web site & a picture from an artist. hmmm AND we take payment in gold or silver (NON-traceable) as in NON_TAXABLE. Again I ask. Do you see a pattern here? If people cant see that? they got coming to them what they got coming.

I,m not kidding, the Missus gives me hell. Another line I like using is when they come up and ask me for money, I say, " I was going to ask you the same thing". You should see the look on their face.
I am not totally heartless though. I will help people who I think truly need it, like the lady with the dog, sitting out on the sidewalk on a cold night. but most pan handlers are bums.

hiswiserangel said...

Still in my top 10 fav people, cranky.

crankyjohn said...

And I never put money in a g-string. I already have one woman I have to hide my money from, why the hell would I give it away to another one? Why go out for milk when I have a cow at home?

hiswiserangel said...

Razor,
I couldn't get the first link to work. I read the second one, but didn't see anything I didn't already know, and it left a lot of the details and facts out that I do know. Very one-sided and slanted. I don't know the author, if he has an agenda. I do know that, if either Mr. Miller or Mr. Kerodin were my PR clients, I would advise against responding.

Several states will consider restoring a convicted felon's right to bear arms if they committed a non-violent felony and are rehabilitated (no other charges/convictions). Mr. Kerodin's past is not a problem to me in terms of his 2A rights.

When you come up with someone who knows either of these gentlemen and has documented proof of current malfeasance, I'll post those links. Until then, it's old news and water under the bridge.

Razor,

I don't agree or disagree, I just want facts. I've seen so much of the nastiness that goes on between bloggers, and know that not everything written is done so with pure intentions.

Can we agree to disagree on this? I really enjoy having you here and would hate to see you go.

The information provided so far has stated that the amount of land one family can have will be determined by the program, how long they have to pay for it will be determined by the program - what if they want to pay it off sooner? - each able-bodied person 13 years and older WILL have a firearm - no doubt sold to them by the gun company for a fabulously low price - and each family with able-bodied members 13 years or older WILL offer up one member to be part of the militia. Ahhh, liberty.

hiswiserangel said...

Anonymous,

The LIBERTY you scoff at comes with the personal choice to live there under those rules OR NOT. See how that works? You don't like it, you don't live there. Your choice. Unlike the "liberty" of a select few deciding NO ONE can have a gun. Regardless of what you want.
Living in the Citadel is a personal choice, just like living in a nudist colony. You don't like looking at breasts and cocks? Don't live in a nudist colony. You don't like the rules of the Citadel, don't live there. Easy peasy.

our local newspaper is running another story on this. I have been providing some information. Only hoping to open eyes. Not about the money part of the whole deal. What bothers me is they/citadel is not being honest about the harshness of this country. Unless your from here you have no fricking clue. "lets go live in the forest and play with bambi & pick wild berries" and it will all work out because we throw "liberty" around. I cant tell you how many people ive seen come up here with stars in there eyes. 2 or 3 winters later, their gone.

on a spicier note... You mention boobs, bras spanker, spankie. Now "you dont like looking at breasts & cocks" ME thinks you could use a good.... :)

Razor,
Same with Texas. See it all the time, they come for the economy, hit a couple of 60 day 100+ summers followed by -wind chill winters, and they're gone.

But I think everyone has gotten too into the mindset of passing the buck. It's MY personal responsibility to fully investigate before making a decision that affects MY family. It's not anyone else's job, and if something doesn't work out because I didn't do my homework, it's no one's fault but mine. If a person isn't intelligent or responsible enough to locate Idaho on a map and read up on it's climate, etc., chances are good they won't do well anywhere. I know the public school system sucks, but still it's not that hard to gather info.

On a spicier note, I'm a freaking redhead. I can always use a good..... :) You were offering me a smile, right?

Wiser is right about Texas weather. I have been to Germany in the winter time when I was in the Army. Froze my ass off. But the winter I spent in Texas was worse. Maybe it was the wind chill factor, but the coldest I have ever been in my life was in Texas.

I am also an Arizona native. Its not uncommon to get 120 degrees here in the summer. But again. The most miserable heat I have EVER experianced was in Texas. And I spent time at Fort Gordon Ga and Ft Jackson South Carolina, which are known for miserable summers as well, and still it could not compare with that lousy Texas weather. God awful place to live.

finally checking back .
I should clarify i suppose .. My not for me comment wasn't meant to start a fuss . I know nothing about the citadel nor any of the principles involved personally . Nor do i care to . My path and place are already chosen and i am better served with what i have now than any move i could make . You see i already live in a rural area and own acreage sufficient to my projected needs. If I in any way kicked off this kerfluffle in your house i apologize to you , and assure you it was not intended .

hiswiserangel said...

No kerfuffle, Farm Dad, just spirited discussion. :-) It's great for some, not for others; my point is Liberty covers everyone's choice. You have to Liberty to choose where and how you live, and you afford others the same. It's all good.
